Overheat-- what froze?

Rob,
I had the same thing happen to me the first time we had a really cold
weekday. I figured it must have been the line between the reservoir and the
rad that froze. After being parked in a service bay (I love my CAA/AAA
card) for about an hour, it started right up with no ill effects. Plugged
my block heater in after that - the next morning I turned on the defrost and
my "new" (installed July 2001 and hadn't experienced temps below -15C yet)
PPG windshield went "boom!" - sigh.
The coolant smell you had in the cabin might have been a result of the
coolant shower the engine was enjoying. Might want to get the system
pressure checked, and check the engine compression while you are at it.
Cheers!
