My fiancee's son went off to college this past September
with a new computer. Within a few weeks, he could hardly
use the thing. It would take 5 minutes for Word to load a
small document.
He brought it home at break and asked me to figure out
what was wrong. It took me a 1/2 day to find out that he
was using Kazaa and a bunch of other "free" music
download utilities. They were doing so much stuff in
the background that it was killing his machine. I deleted
all that stuff (it took a while to clean up the software and
registry) and his PC worked normally again. We both
learned a lesson about "free" software.
