bad running after chip/WG spring

Hey,
 I finally got my chip and WG spring over christmas break. Install was a
breeze! But, anything past about half throttle too aggressively (not gingerly
rolling on) produces severe cutout.I can accelerate hard at half throttle then
if I try to go just a tad more weird stuff starts happening. But, it's not
fuel pump cutout...the exhaust sounds muffled or something and it almost
sounds like someone is pounding on the cat. converter underneath the car. It
even gave a loud pop one time (the exhaust). I get 1.8 bar and the car is a
lot faster...but I can't really go past half throttle. I'm hoping it's just
the plugs. I'm running 92 octane and have a new WG diaphragm. Car is a 1986
5ktq.
