Regards from HAL - call the shrink

I'm hearing from my good friend HAL - the psychotic on-board command
computer in my 86 5Ks (5 speed).

Yesterday AM, he started complaining about a bulb out - and sure enough,
the left rear stop lamp was kaput - so I insalled a new bulb, he stopped
complaining, and I patted him on the head, saying "Good HAL, nice HAL",
just amazed that it had finally worked the way it should have.


This evidently went to his head, because at noon today, I started getting a
triple-beep with a red triangle - the book sez the triple beep plus red
triangle is a problem, stop and fix it NOW - but there's nothing ON the
triangle! No emblems, no indicators at all, just the triangle. I've checked
all systems, oil, water, temp, brake fluid, pentosin, all appear normal,
and nothing is smoking, hanging or dripping (more likely pouring) out . . .
WTF???? Everything seems OK, car runs fine.


Unless maybe HAL has retired and his replacement is Marvin the Paranoid
Android (somehow more fitting for a borderline geriatric Audi 5K).


Ideas welcome . . .
