Perhaps you should soak its head in a bucket :-)

Try the self test and see what comes up.  Hold down the test button and turn
on the ignition, then let go of the test button and watch the display.

As you seem to surmise, a red triangle alone is not a legitimate warning.

My check light stuff was freaky due to some seriously worn insulation on the
wires between the body and trunk lid.  Once I replaced all the bare wires,
the check system settled down and my backup lights started to work
consistently, too.  You may at least want to take a look at the loom going
into the trunk lid on the drivers side.

I believe the red triangle comes up only with the brake related items.  If
the brake fluid and pentosin levels are ok, that leaves pentosin pressure.
Check the electrical connection at the brake booster behind the master
cylinder.
