4ksq won't start

I'm going to agree with Jan.  I'd look at the ignition control module as suspect.  Mine did a very similar thing, crapped out suddenly.  I could sometimes get it to fire, and run, but under load, or over 2k rpm, it would die.  One of your clues is the tach dropping off suddenly.

My module was fried.  Turns out that it was hurried along by the coil going south.  After the second module, I realized what was going on, replaced the coil, and have had no problems since.

In fact, I believe Jan was one of the kind souls who helped me out with a spare module while I was troubleshooting my car.
