DVM recommendation? (LAC)

The trouble with Fluke, in this case, is that their basic meters (I have
a 73 and love it) don't include duty cycle. And their automotive line is
quite expensive, as I recall, maybe $300~400.
I picked up a $20 automotive meter just for duty cycle but it went on
the fritz a few months later... no fun having an instrument whose
readings you can't trust.

They make a good general purpose meter (I believe it's the 70-series) available for around 100$ or so. Don't settle for anything less, you'll thank me later. I own 4 of them that I've been using on a daily basis for 15 years with no problems. I've also noticed (among other notable professionals) that the techs I've worked with over the years some were "wanna-be's", some really knew their stuff, and without exception all the good ones used Fluke, and the idiots used "whatever".
