tips for welding cracked exhaust manifolds?

Just for grins, I bought the Haynes welding manual.  It was only about
$15, and tried to teach more about welding than I will ever know...

Luckily a local guy who actually knows how to weld gave me a few
pointers, too.  Although watching him mig weld my 90's strut brace
brackets on made me realize how clumsy and clueless I am!
