Hello all,
I'm continuing to have a very frustrating problem. A few months ago I fini=
shed working on my 84 4ksq, decided to clean the engine, and in the process=
created a host of small electrical problems. The car starts and idles fin=
e, but the battery won't charge. I've checked and cleaned all the connecti=
ons I could find, changed the voltage regulator (it was old anyway), and ul=
timately swapped-out the entire alternator...to no avail. In my seemingly =
eternal quest to resolve this ##$$$!! issue I've stumbled across text like:
"Another problem area is the blue wire that provides the field current to t=
erminal 61 (D+ ?) on the alternator. There is a single wire connector for t=
his blue field wire mounted in the engine compartment down by the battery j=
umper post on the frame. On many vehicles, this connector and its terminals=
has been found to be severely corroded or in some cases the connector has =
come loose, which prevents the alternator from charging"
I have also been told about this possibility. To the question then... Whe=
re is the connection in question? The Bentley isn't that clear in the elec=
trical diagrams...and I'm pulling my hair out. Could this be one of those =
extremely-obvious-but-easy-to-miss connections? Any BTDT's? TIA
Regards,
George B.
