> I'm continuing to have a very frustrating problem. A few months ago I finished working on my 84 4ksq, decided to clean the engine, and in the process created a host of small electrical problems. The car starts and idles fine, but the battery won't charge. I've checked and cleaned all the connections I could find, changed the voltage regulator (it was old anyway), and ultimately swapped-out the entire alternator...to no avail. In my seemingly eternal quest to resolve this ##$$$!! issue I've stumbled across text like:
>
> "Another problem area is the blue wire that provides the field current to terminal 61 (D+ ?) on the alternator. There is a single wire connector for this blue field wire mounted in the engine compartment down by the battery jumper post on the frame. On many vehicles, this connector and its terminals has been found to be severely corroded or in some cases the connector has come loose, which prevents the alternator from charging"

that refers to the larger bodied cars, wiht the battery under the seat
and alt on the starboard side.

> I have also been told about this possibility. To the question then... Where is the connection in question? The Bentley isn't that clear in the electrical diagrams...and I'm pulling my hair out. Could this be one of those extremely-obvious-but-easy-to-miss connections?

on your car, the blue wire first goes tot he alt - it's the little one.
then there is a continuation over to the other side, where it goes
nowhere (I think on a UrQ the alt must be there?)

SO measure what's happening at that small post on the back of the alt
with the engine running. You should see battery voltage...

Check all the grounds - alt mounting, battery strap, stuff like that, as
well. belt tension. battery good? I bet it isn't...
