It looks Beige and for a 4000/4000Q it would be beige. Pearl is for the
100/200's. Correct? The rare (85-87)4000 color is the non--saphire, dark
blue metallic. VG color IMHO.

Subject: UrS4 tuning success story
Hi all!
I just wanted to vent my happiness for what happened yesterday with a
friend's UrS4.
He had some chips in it with a 3 Bar MAP sensor, but he couldn't get proper
boost from the engine without having and hearing knocking...
So yesterday I went to his place with all my equipment and tested the car,
no fault codes, everything perfect. We then test drove it and got no knock
at boost pressures lower than 1.5 Bar (2.5 absolute). Then we turned the WG
spring down 2 turns, went for a drive and wow! I've gotten to hear knock
for the first time in my life, and hell it doesn't sound good or
reassuring! Then I opened his ECU, pulled the chips, read them and started
working on the maps inside. And there was the surprise! His chips software
was made for an enormous turbocharger, RS2 injectors and a huge intercooler
as well, plus probably some very high octane fuel. 27 degrees advance at
WOT/7000 RPM and a little lower than that at lower RPMs/WOT... Man, who's
the dumba$$ who did those chips??? The timing advance map for "recognized
knocking" was only 3 degrees retarded from the main map, so no wonder we
could hear knock!
So I set off to work and modify his ignition advance map, then added a
little more fuel, and meanwhile he installed a set of 3B injectors,
retaining the stock UrS4 fuel pressure regulator, so he could have a little
more fuel in order to protect his engine and get a few more horses out of
it. Then we burnt the chips, and went for the test drive that was going to
reveal if I knew what I was doing or not (though my friend didn't have a
doubt that I knew it). Well, at 1.6 Bar, the result is blasting! Whereas
before he used to have a nasty "flat spot" between 2 and 3k RPM at WOT and
not get proper boost below 3300 RPM (we measured 0.8 Bar at 3000 during the
first test drive), he now has 1.35 Bar at 2800 RPM and 1.6 at 3100 or
thereabouts. The car now pulls strongly to the redline with no signs of the
ECU backing off the advance at whatever RPM and no more flat spot either.
About 2 hours later when I was almost at home, he called me from Paris
(which is some 400 km away from his place BTW) to thank me again for the
good work and to tell me that his car never pulled so strongly as now!!! I
guess he slightly ignored the speed limits in order to get to Paris in such
a short time but oh well...
Sorry for the long post but I needed to somehow vent my pride! :-)

In my quest for new headlights I ran across this:
http://www.audiquattroparts.com/tuneup/air_filters.htm
They claim that the K&N air filter will add 5-10% more HP to a car.
For my 1990 200TQ, they sell the normal filter for $10 and the
washable reusable magical one for $45. Has anyone used these? Do
they work as advertised? How often do I need to wash them? Washing
machine, or dryclean only? :)
Also: say I get the Euro headlamps. Do xenon bulbs really make a
great deal of difference over the some-other-halogen bulbs (xenon is a
halogen too)? I've heard much about burning out H4 bulbs - do the
xenon ones last longer? My alternator may not be up to supplying the
juice for 100W bulbs, so I'm looking for lower wattage brightness.
Can't I have a headlight made entirely from superbright LEDs that
draws 2 watts and spanks the DOT lights?
Cheers!

Only real way to do it is to bypass the factory fuel pump relay, but then
you
will loose the fuel pump shutoff in the even of an accident, so you'll need
to devise a way to shut off the fuel pump when the rpm go to zero. Not sure
how Megasquirt does it, but 034efi has a fuel pump relay output that takes
care of all this for you.

Don't take any of the Blau HP figures for real, they are very optimistic and
over inflated, like most aftermarket tuners unfortunately.

Good point.
Last week we had 3 young guys discover that just because an Impreza has 4wd
it doesn't aways make it around a corner. Flipped end over end a number of
times, all 3 were thrown out.
The driver learned a lesson that lasted him the rest of his life (a few
seconds), the other two are still waiting to hear what action the police
will take.
The car had been reported to the police a number of times that night and
spotted by patrol cars a few times but trace had been lost.

After just cruising arround for the first few runs after I fixed my ignitio=

on your car, the blue wire first goes tot he alt - it's the little one.
then there is a continuation over to the other side, where it goes
nowhere (I think on a UrQ the alt must be there?)
SO measure what's happening at that small post on the back of the alt
with the engine running. You should see battery voltage...
Check all the grounds - alt mounting, battery strap, stuff like that, as
well. belt tension. battery good? I bet it isn't...

As Javad pointed out, it is fuel pump relay dependent, and a safety
feature on the other end (engine dies, pump stops pumping)
So here is an idea... we all know what happens when someone swaps a 4
cylinder relay into a 5 cyl car - the cutoff drops by 20% to about 5000
rpms.
This is because the fpr "counts" coil pulses to determine rpms, not
actual revs. so it has a divider factor based on how many cylinders
there are.
How about finding a fpr from a *6* cylinder engine with a similar
electrical profile? It might plug and play, and get you a cut off up in
the 7000+ range.
Try looking at Bentzes, WMBs, Slaabs and Ovlovs from the 80's in
junkyards?
Worst thing you might have to do is make an adapter harness to plug it
in, if the pinout is different.
