Cold making my Audi (95 90q) very fuel thirsty (NAC)

It could be the Northern wind cooling the car more when driving into it.
In central Alberta there's the usual North-Western wind blowing.  Driving
west from Edmonton to the mountains (3-4 hours) took once more than a tank
of fuel.  Going back the same way took about half of the same tank.  Both
times not in an Audi :o(
