Likely into your engine. Have you ever held a K&N up to the light? You can see right through them. Also, try the "salt test". Table Salt crystals are fairly large, at about 100 microns. K&N claims to filter down to 5 microns, IIRC. Well, it doesn't even come close. Take a new K&N and sprinkle some table salt on top. Some of the salt will immediately fall through (not get "filtered"). Now agitate the filter (like as if the car were rolling over a non perfect surface) and you'll soon see that MOST of the 100 micron salt particles will flow right through. To me this means that a K&N can't even filter out 100 micron particles, let alone smaller dust & pollen particles (pollen is 30-50 microns)...
