MC compression ratio

I'm working on a rebuild of an MC motor ('86 5kt) for eventual transplant
into a 4kq.  I'm contemplating shaving a bit off the head to increase the
compression.  Stock CR is 7.8:1 on this motor.  Anyone have a BTDT as far as
raising the CR on these motors.  Opinions?  I noticed that the KH motors
were at 8.3:1.  Why was the CR reduced on the later engines?  Is it
generally better to leave the CR alone and go for power gains with higher
boost?  Are there problems with the knock sensing and higher CR's?  I'd like
to eventually get this motor running around 220 hp.  If I do decide to raise
the CR, I'll have to check the valve clearance first with some Play-Doh.
