New Alternator Belt sounds like a Supercharger

Hi all,

I managed to find a local parts store open until 9pm that actually had the
drive belt I needed.  And it was only a mile's walk away.  So I swapped it
out in the dark with the aid of a big maglight and a street light.  Well
everything went in and out in under 15 minutes without removing the splash
guard, just the grilles.  So as it idled for 5 or so minutes the car was as
quiet as could be.  During my test drive, it sounded like I had stapped on a
supercharger!  The christmas tree of lights was no off in the cluster so I
know the alternator is juicing the battery.  Does anyone know what the
proper tension should be (by hand measurements) on an alternator belt?

I have to drive 400+ mi tomorrow night and will pick up another $5 belt just
in case I think.
