loud bang in front heard/felt in 86 4kq. Help!

Hi All,

I made the mistake of thinking and maybe even commenting out loud on how
reliable my 4kq had been lately.

Tonight when slowly pulling up to a stop sign, I heard/felt a loud metallic
bang with a bit of an echo. I immediately pulled over and checked out the
car. I pulled on the front wheels side to side and top to bottom. They're
still tight. The I opened the hood. What I came up with is that the left
front strut is now loose around the strut bearing cap. The nut for the
cartridge is still tight. The car MAY be a bit lower than before on the
front left. It also clunks loudly over bumps now.

What happened? Did I break a spring (age unknown but the right front spring
broke in the last year), or is it the strut bearing (one year old)?
Something else?
