The pumps that have leaked on me have leaked from between the two
halves. I've not had one leak from under the caps yet. What I've found
when resealing them is that the O-rings under the caps are usually just
about as hard and stiff as the ones that leaked between the halves. I
figure leaks come from the seals hardening as they get heat-cycled over a
period of years. You can only get to a couple of the caps with the pump
installed on the engine, so, unless you have a "top leaker", you probably
have to pull the pump anyway.
