I cut the wires and used a long 22 mm socket with a breaker bar and
a piece of pipe to extend leverage. This was on the V8, where the O2
sensor is buried between where two exhaust pipes meet in a "Y" and I was
working on my back with jackstands. The sensor came out without some of
its threads, so I had to worry a thread chaser back into the bung before
the new sensor would go in.
