Hap, yes, I was very impressed with your #'s, especially the 91 oct part of
it, knowing the #'s behind my timing maps, I'm not quite sure what I could do
with the current motor to make more than 17psi or so w/o detonating or being
retarded out of combustion..not speaking in general terms, like "oh ya, well in
my 5kq with a k24 and CIS I wus running 24psi!", but with the current motor I
have in its current configuration. There is no question that its making a lot
of power with the boost I'm giving it, I've been very satisfied how I've been
able to continuously increase the efficiency of the motor while keeping boost
essentially stable or even less and the basically stock motor/head config.
I've really wondered, and Chris Leal and I have had some conversations, what
a 20v head bolted onto my motor with equalized compression ratio and similar
turbo would do with the same 17psi, I'd estimate at least 20-30% more power,
but its hard to say, and would be an interesting experiment. The new 2.3 will
give a good idea, slightly lower compression but much higher flow.
I'd love to play S-car mafia style, but at this point in my life I just don't
have the funds, none-the-less, I'd like to think all of us out here in Audi
land pushing these motors at different-relevant-levels are all increasing the
I5 tuning knowledge base ;)
More dyno #'s and insane, satisfying fun to come...
