ECU connectors

Folks- anyone know if either the male or female side of the ECU
connector(s) are the same as anything else? Don't I recall AMP
making the connector? I was thinking maybe it's used in other
places, like avionics, although those seem to be all round w/locking
collar.
I'm very much interested in watching a few signals, but I'm -really-
not interested in splicing wiring. It's also not very practical to
run around the engine compartment with wiring and dozens of WW 2+3
pin connectors(which are available, I've seen them online- prices
were not great though, if I recall.)
I would guess that MAYBE the ECU connector is available from Audi,
but probably enormous bux.
Any suggestions? Are there any more common models that share a
similar connector, that I could perhaps grab from a junkyard or
something?
