Yeah, we just had a W123 300D returned to us last year after 18 months
in the workshop (bastards!) and it came back in a shocking rusted and
dented state. Just got it back last week from the paint shop where we
had the rust repaired, dents removed and a fresh coat of paint slapped
on. Admittedly, it was a budget repair. Couldn't see putting money into
a '79 machine work $1000 over here. After 18 months in the workshop for
repairing a no start condition, the car once again wouldn't start so
more money was sunk into it to get the stuff-up fixed.

I had the head replaced about a year ago with one from an Isuzu
5-cylinder diesel (ADE engine) because the Merc's original was not
holding pressure because it was cracked (I still think that was from
heat damage).

Anyway, I will be restoring slowly when I have the time. One thing is
for sure, she'll be getting regular oil changes in future. It used to
consume 3 litres of the stuff every month.
