4Kq w/ only 40,000 miles for sale!

I called the guy (really unusual to have the phone number in an ebay
listing). He claims the car has only 40K, but has only owned it for seven
months and has no records (which the previous owner threw away,
supposedly). He also claims to be the third owner, but that the original
owner had it for the first 19 years. Using ebay's autocheck system, I found
it had new titles in January and July of this year, and one as far back as
1994, but the records don't go back any farther. So  he may not know how
many owners there have been. Checking with Audi dealers in his area, no
service history is available. Hmmm. What's a good way to find out if this
is legit using the VIN?
