Chris, Dave,
I agree with Chris.  There's a 90% chance the ignition switch
is bad.

Both of my 95 A6q's had the ignition switch fail last year.
Both of them also had the ignition switch changed under the recall
about 5 years ago.
Seems like the ignition switches fail about every 4 or 5 years.

If the ignition switch in the subject car hasn't been changed recently,
it undoubtedly needs changing, and the first part of the description
(no signals, ac, other things) sure sounds like a failing switch.

The second bit, where the started cranks but there's
no sign of the engine starting, I'm not so sure about.
It's possible that it's still the switch, but it could also be some
other secondary problem.

The electrical part of the ignition switch is what fails.
The new switch costs about $25-$30, and it takes a home mechanic
about 2.5 hours to install.  It helps to have really small fingers
and a lot of dexterity.  I've done it twice.  The switch of the
manual tranny car was easier to replace.
