Request for Diagnosis

It sounds to me like you should check the ignition switch FIRST to
see if it is working properly. I drove an S6 once that had the
engine work fine, but none of the electronics otherwise would work-
no radio, climate control, windows, etc. due to the ignition switch
being faulty.

Dear Audi gurus:

The subject is a '96 A6Q sedan with about 143,000 miles, which is mostly
driven on weekends only by my wife. For the past three weeks or so, she
has reported that on several occasions, when it is started up, the
computer displays (mpg, etc.), turn signals, air-conditioner, and
perhaps other functions are inoperable. When she turned it off and back
on, everything appeared to be back to normal (and the car ran fine as
usual). No other noticeable symptoms. Today, after normal driving, it
would not start back up. The starter is working okay, but it does not
seem to be getting any fuel (& yes the tank is full).

Any tentative diagnoses?

Thanks a lot,
Dave Nelson

Sounds like a bad ignition switch to me.
