Brake switch interrupting cruise control operation

On my '91 cq, the cruise control cuts out intermittently, and I have to lift
the brake pedal forcibly to get the cruise control to function again.

 Can the interrupt switch be adjusted so that it's not so close to the brake
pedal?  I haven't been down near the pedal cluster because I have better
luck breaking things than I have fixing them....
