Very odd update to 89 200 voltage drop

Ok, I can't figure this one out at all.

When the car ran a couple days ago.  I measure 13.9 to 14 volts with my
multimeter on the jumper post.  At the battery it was around 12.5 to 12.8
volts.  The car didn't start this morning, so I had to use the backup 90q.

So out of curiosity, I went to measure the voltage just now.
I pulled about 5.5volts on the battery positive terminal. (either something
is draining it, or the battery is goin bad)
Now here is the weirdest thing ever.  I measured almost 8 volts on the
jumper!!

How in the world can I be gaining 2 volts?  I am so befuddled by this.
Since I have tomorrow off, I planned on fixing the footwell splice in the
morning.  I guess I will reevaluate after that is done.

Any insight on this would be lovely.  I am very confused here.
