"Does anyone know of a part number for a boot that will fit the inner
joint on the rear tie rod of a 1987 5kcstq? One of mine, on a
relatively new tie rod has developed a rip, probably from foreign
object damage, and I'd like to replace just the boot rather than
another $120 for a tie rod."

Josh,
I don't know of any source for the boot. The $65 tie rods James mentioned
are not the ones you are talking about, that price would be for front tie
rods.

I've successfully repaired a small tear in this type of boot with sealant,
using whatever I happened to have on the shelf ... I think it was Permatex
brand, black color ... there's usually a variety of flavors in any auto
parts store, most say they have silicone in them.
So, depending on how badly torn your boot is, you might want to give this a
try. Clean any dirt grease off of the boot first, then smear a dab over
the tear and let it cure. The patch I put on a front control arm boot two
years ago is still holding.
