Family Album (FA) and ETKA:
"I've been told": That the default resolution is 1280 x 1024,
and will display only a portion of the program if shown on an
older computer or one set to less than the 1280 x 1024 resolution.
1024 x 768 or 800 x 600 will not display the entire program.
The best way to describe this is to look at a photo cropped.
Therefore, exit and other functions cann't be reached by the mouse.
(At least you cann't see them to be able to use them.)
HTH -Scott in BOSTON with "friends at dealerships."
Hello all, does anybody know what resolutions FA will run in?

At 1280 X 1024 you get the full FA covering the screen, at anything above
that you get FA in a 1280x1024 section of the screen.

Not to start a how long and type of oil thread:
I read that several off lease A6's etc., VAG cars
like the 30V in particular where failing due to no compression.
It seems that someone posted here or at Audiworld
that the oil change time period seems crucial due
to the very thin weight oils used in these motors
and the close tolerances inside the motor.
Several of the off lease cars were just gased
and driven without regard to the oil changes or
service etc.
Contributing to this "problem"
Anyone have some concrete data regarding this?

I recently talked to the owner of a European parts
house in Mountain View- he had been a Mercedes
employee in Deutschland and seemed quite knowledgable.
Anyhoo, he pointed out that his Volvo turbo wagon gets
fresh Mobil 1 every 25,000 miles, and he's around
125,000 so far.

For the US, the type 89 Audi 90 series all have wood trim on the dash.
The 80 series does not have the wood trim.

Sort it out by testing for continuity between the appropriate ends
using an ohmmeter. You know which pin at the ECU each of these

The Saga --
My wife was returning home from work late at night, on the highway, during
the winter; noticed that the heater output was down so pulled into a nearby
shopping area and stopped the car. When I arrived I found the top neck of
the radiator had failed spewing most/all of the coolant out of the engine.
Reconnected the hose to the stub, refilled the cooling system and started
the car. Terrible roaring noise from the expansion tank - diagnosis blown
head gasket. Pulled head and found it to be warped about .050. Replaced
head, etc. once the car was running it occassionally stuttered during low
and mid-range acceleration; gas mileage also seemed to be down somewhat from
before the debacle. Over a period of about 5 months this problem has gotten
worse to the point where it is often hard to get the car to pull itself at
all. I know that the antifreeze could have ruined the 02 sensor and probably
would have had a detrimental effect on the cat. I'm hoping to check out the
02 sensor tomorrow night. Does anyone on the list have any words of wisdom
on the probable cause of my problems or any data/test procedures for
checking the cat.

You should replace it with a simple link to the current location. Low
bandwidth, and it takes care of the fact that now that you published the

It has a 200 20V flywheel - yes lighter dual mass flywheel.
I sure wouldn't go yanking out the motor at this point if I hadn't
however. I finally got the engine running today.
This whole project has been over 4 years in the making and 1 year was
planning and procurement of the parts to assemble the engine. I think
this is the engine the car should have come with in the first place.
I cover most of the details on my website and plan to update with final
details when completed.

Did you lighten the flywheel? I strongly recommend it! No downside.
I have done the NG conversion to my 84 4kq and couldn't be happier
with it.
Been driving Mazda b3000 out of necessity and my urq when the truck is
not needed.
Probably will switch back to the 4kq soon.

OK, take the knock sensor wire as an example. According to the
1986 5000 turbo quattro (MC engine) wiring diagram in my copy of
the Bentley manual, the knock sensor wire in the engine
compartment has a 3-pin connector that has three colors for its
wires (black, yellow, brown). The signal lead is the black wire,
and is supposed to go to pin 15 of the ECU plug, the other two
wires are ground.
Thus, you set your multimeter to the resistance (ohms) mode with
the lowest scale, place one test lead of the multimeter on pin 15
of the ECU plug, then place the other lead on one of the unidentified
connectors' pins which has the black wire on it, and see which one
will cause the meter to register a reading that's close to zero ohms
(it won't be exactly 0, but should be a fraction of an ohm due to
wiring resistance). Found it?
You do a similar thing to verify the other unidentified plug(s).
BTW, the Bentley shows three such 3-wire plugs with the same
color coding. One for the knock sensor, one for the timing sensor,
and one for the RPM sender.

Hi Chris,
Sounds like a leak in the air intake system between the output of the turbo
and the intake manifold. It is quite likely that you blew your intercooler
or one of the hoses. All the popping and such is likely from running way to
rich due to loosing metered air.
Check the intercooler and Michelin man hose for starters.
Good luck,
