To all of you who suggested the rear wheel bearings, CONGRATULATIONS! It
was the wheel bearings...both sides. No wonder they were noisy! Bearings
replaced, noise gone!
And for those of you who were worried about my BFH, now you can worry
about my BFP. Yes, I purchased the 20 ton press and I'm glad that I did.
Without the press I doubt the BFH would have done the job. The new press
worked very well, pressing out the bearings with minimum of trouble.
But now I created a new problem or 2 ;-)
1) The ABS light is on. I tried to pull out the sensor while taking out
the rear hub carrier. It was of course in a lot tighter than the manual
would suggest, so it wouldn't come out and instead we unplugged the
cable and took it out with the carrier. Is there any way of testing that
the sensor is still good?
2) The car sidetracks a bit. After reinstalling the 2 rear hub carriers,
the owner noticed that to go down the road straight, he had to steer a
bit to the right. I drove down the road behind him and noticed that his
front wheels were offset to the left of the rear. Is there any
adjustment on the rear suspension to adjust the toe-in of the rear wheels?
All help appreciated.
Cheers
George
