100CS - no forward gear - what are the options?

my MY86 100 [183,000km] did exactly the same thing last week. I was told
that the clutch in the tranny had most likely broken. The result was a new
reco tranny at AUD$1000 plus fitting , about 4 hrs. They did check the
selector etc but in the case of the old 3 speed its supposedly a common
problem. Its cheaper to put in a reco than get yours fixed.
