Hello
Thanks for all the replies, the biggest point raised was about the
performance of the 2.6 V6 compared to my old 2.2 i5 coupe.
The V6 is far more powerfull but compared to the i5 is as far as I'm
concerned a waste of time(bit hard), the 150bhp created by the V6 only comes
into play once you've wound the engine up somewhere around the 3500 revs
mark, my old coupe hit (I think) 136bhp at 1800revs giving the car as you
all know a terrific kick the moment you dumped the throttle.
If you take into account that my 80q was one of the last 80's made in
europe, is practicaly made of aluminium and weighs less than the big old
coupe why then does it still accelerate like a boat, admitedly it does
0-60mph in approx 8 or 9 secs (wringing it's neck).
I suppose that it comes down to the first gear ratio which greatly differs
from the coupe, I remember hitting the limiter a number of times in first
gear cause I couldn't change gear quick enough in the coupe, in the 80 it
has to get to 5 or 10 mph before it takes off.
What doesn't help is the 2nd gear syncro is F****d (thrashed I think) on my
80 I have to carefully change gear now which doesn't help my opinion of the
vehicles speed.
Another thing I don't like about the V6 is the amount o fuel it drinks
average 22miles to the gallon whereas the coupe again did something like 30
- 35.
I shouldn't be flaming this engine I know, if I hadn't known of the i5
before I got this one i'd be deleriously happy with this car but I have had
a coupe which I my honest opinion is the sexiest, best handling, most fun
car on the road. This 80 appears to be the flat cap and leather driving
gloves model, I wanted the baseball cap and bubblegum version.
The i5 just rocked BIG time. Whereas the poor old V6 had to follow in it's
shaddow.

However I liked the idea of applying some kind of charger on it, would that
reduce the amount of time it takes to take off and would a standard non
turbo V6 even be able to handle that extra kind of pressure?
Either that or I could start improving the grade of the fuel.
