I've a need to remove the steering wheel in my '98 Passat. I assume an
Audi A4 is similar, so if you have experience with either of these
vehicles please let me know.
Anyhow, the problem is in the type of bolt or nut that holds the
steering wheel on. In my 4kq, it's just a large nut (24mm or something)
that you undo and the wheel is free. In this Passat, it appears to take
one of those star-shaped "torx" bits instead. I went to the local Sears
to find Torx bits, and the largest size they sell is a Tx50 which
appears to be roughly 5mm in diameter. This torx item in the passat
looks to be about 8mm or 9mm in diameter.
Where do I get a torx bit this large? Does it even take a standard torx
bit or do I need some special VAG tool to do the job?
TIA!!
