Bushing in the crank removal

The NF engine I'm about to finish (this is the last thing!) came from an
automatic transmission donor. So I need to remove the bushing and install a
pilot bearing.

Well I tried what's in the arquives (grease pressure) didn't work.

I used a slide hammer. I broke the hook and the thing didn't move. Granted it
was a cheapo HF one.

I'm going to try the slide hammer again today, but first I'll torch the crank
end.

Is there another magic way besides buying the special tool.
