2 questions Re: 86 VW Quantum GL5

I recently purchased an 86 VW quantum and now have some questions that I
hope someone on the list can help me with.
1 -- is the 5 speed gearbox used in this model the same as that used in the
83 Coupe GT
2 -- the power windows do not work - I originally suspected the normal
degrtadation of the wires in the hinge of the drivers door but found them to
be in good shape. I was unable to get a voltage reading at any of the window
switch wires in the door. Is there a relay for the windows on this car that
may have failed or be missing.
