Power Drain when car is off

Matt,
I'll tell you about a recent similar problem I had
with my '89 100q. I'm still not sure what the problem
was, but it seems to be solved with the installation
of a new alternator.
Mine would also drain the battery overnight, but very
intermittently. Sometimes would go for weeks just fine
and then one day it would be drained. Also seemed to
be a bigger problem if left for a couple days. The
alternator was charging OK, but probably not quite as
much voltage as it should have. I still don't think
that by itself was the problem. I wonder if there was
something a little loose inside of it that once in a
while would get in a position to let the battery drain
when the car was off. Anyway, the alternator finally
died and was replaced and I haven't had a problem
since, but it has only been a couple weeks.
Like I said, similar problem, similar car, seems to be
solved, not sure why.
Any help?
Mike
