[urq] '83 UrQuattro - Whats it worth?

Steve,
No wet blanket here. Although I wasn't given the car, and I had to
make some effort to get it, I feel the car is already worth fairly more
than I got it for, as now it is cleaned up and runs.
I am interested mostly from the point of view as to what I should
consider doing to maximize any time and money invested into the car.
I plan to enjoy the car in the meantime, even if it doesn't do much
more than grace my driveway. I feel that I now have a car that can
really be called a "sports car" even in its stock form. I'm sure it
will be more worthy of whatever I do to it than any of the other cars
I've done engine swaps, whatever. Thanks for the reply!
Ben

... I don't know if very many people are able to "realize the return on
their investments" on many automotive projects ... well, I did have a
friend who bought broken down cars that he knew would be fairly easy to
fix ...fixed them up and turned them around right away for a profit.
If he found the cars were worse off than he originally thought he'd
scrap them right away ... overall I think he was positive ...
While we all love to dream, I don't thing there have been many pros who
have felt the urquattro was expected to see above average long term
appreciation.
Bill Bremer is probably doing the most good in terms of enhancing values
long term ... and the upcoming EC article may help to remind folks that
the urq is around ...
On the subject of mods ... who knows what's going to give you the
maximum ROI ... especially in terms of collectability. It seems to me
that for other cars people achieve peak values for originality, with a
loss or no premiums for even "tasteful" mods. People gripe about the
wimpy stock engine, but IME a stock urq could easily hold its own among
its contemporaries, and even some newer cars. Funny, I've been told
that even the Cibie headlights I have detract from the value ... but
then I really don't do things with the thought of ROI. Frankly, I have
to chuckle a bit when I read about trying to preserve collectability
and hacking together wiring harnesses from several cars in the same
post. If you want to maximize the value of the car ... IMO of
course ... any mods that are done need to be done properly ... like
what Steve Eiche is doing with his car. I don't know for sure, but I
doubt that Steve even expects to realize a return on his investment ...
at least not monetarily. He will have a car that he will enjoy driving
and will be the envy of many US ury owners ... but you don't get
much "return on investment" for that ...
