Suspension gurus spring retro fit

Suspension guys currently my 87 4ksq is sitting on some dead springs and its
getting to be annoying. the previous owner put in new struts so i am ok there.
My right front spring broke off  a 4 inch long chunk  near the bottom of the
spring. my current tire setup is also causing a problem 195 65 r14s on 924
alloys offset is about an inch wider. with this setup i can not sit any one in
the rear and can not push it hard through corners (DAMN). I have a little
experience with no to little suspension vehicles( raced gokarts for a bit and
father owns a 74 911 targa slammed koni suspended autocross machine) and i
rather prefer a stiffly sprung vehicle. i have noticed that with a little work
a 5000 front spring could fit Tell me if i am wrong or if any body has another
ideas... unfortunatly i am on a students budget
