Ok, so I've finally decided to get rid of my 88 80q. I'm still hesitant th=
ough. It's only got about 155k miles on it and I was really hoping to hit =
the 200k mark in it.

Last week when the temps hit the 90's in the DC metro area, my car decided =
to over heat. Popping the hood I found that the connector to the fan had m=
elted thus the fan was not coming on. I believe this is a common problem w=
ith earlier 80/90 models. I sat around in the heat for the traffic to die =
down. A few hours later, I decided to start up the motor and head for home=
. Was able to keep the car moving at 60-70 mph so I figured the air flow s=
hould have been sufficient to keep the temps down. Not having time to fix =
it myself, I decided to drop it off at the local mechanic.

Anyway, he finally called today and gave me a laundry list:
A/C compressor is leaking (kinda new about this)
Front end looks unstable (umm...true since it handled a bit funny)
Rear diffs leak (yeah, I've seen that as well)
Fan needs to replaced (ok...)
Needs new tires (yep...)
plus a bunch of other stuff that I know of that he didn't mention. Guess h=
e kinda stopped when the repair bill far exceeded the value of the car. Ce=
rtainly he would have charged me enough that both Mike Arman and Huw Powell=
would have been able to buy at least 2 old beater Audi each and restored t=
hem to perfect health. Not I. I don't seem to have the time or think I ha=
ve the time. Maybe I'm just too lazy.

Basically he said that it would'nt be worth me spending the money on gettin=
g the work done. Now most listers here would have been able to fix the pro=
blems mentioned above probably in one weekend. Like I said, I'm just too l=
azy and have let the car lapse.

It is sad. So, after approval from the in-home accountant, I've decided to=
donate my vehicle to a local charity and look for a "new" Audi although I =
seriously doubt that I am worthy of older Audi ownership. But they just fe=
el sooooo good to drive.

It has served me well for over 5 years so like I said, sad to let it go but=
too many things to fix and not enough time.
