Any spray paint (even krylon) would likely help to reduce the surface rust
but the bigger problem with the rear tie-rods is having the threads rust and
freeze solid so that toe can no longer be adjusted. The way that the middle
threaded tube is "slotted" alows water/mud to ooze into the threads and rust
them tightly together. Liberaly coating the threads with anti-seize paste
before assembly would be a good preventative measure .

<<Also, once the new tie rods are on, what's the best way to prevent them
from rusting to hell? I've heard a few things but don't know what to
believe. One suggestion I received was to cover them with krylon brand
spray paint. Another was to use axle grease all over them. Any
suggestions?>>
