Well, one of my 90Qs uses the little cube thing because it's got the 2
dimples in the piston. My other one uses a hex but they were so stripped,
I had to use the channel-locks myself. I ended up replacing them a couple
weeks ago (parking brake levers were sticky) and the POS rebuilt calipers
have stripped out keyways as well. After having AutoZone order 3 sets and
they were all stripped, I got them to knock another $25 off each side
(total price = $80 for BOTH, heh :-). Make sure you pre-fill the caliper
with brake fluid when you change them. As for turning, the piston has a
threaded rod that it rotates on so you should have been able to keep
turning it on - unless the parking brake mechanism was messing you up somehow.
I would replace both ball joints at the same time. It's the "if one side
is bad, the other is probably too" theory. Unless, they were recently
changed and this one died an obviously premature death due to a boot
ripping and grease contamination.
