87 4kq overheating

What kind of mixture is your coolant? 50/50 water/antifreeze? Just guessing
here (but it's the only thing that makes sense to me, thermostat/clogged
heater core/radiator shouldn't do that), but it could be that you have too
much water, not enough antifreeze, and are experiencing some localized
frozen coolant in the heater core/radiator at those ~10deg temps...this
would be Very Not Good, a little colder and you would start popping freeze
plugs and other nasty things. I would check coolant mixture right away if
you don't know, there are little specific-gravity testers at FLAPS.
