Strange CGTt problem starts but won't stay lit...

Sounds like the joys of the underdash fusebox.  I suspect I have changed
half the circuits through mine over time to keep it working, and how
some of it is wired is still a mystery.  I heard a rumor once that there
was a recall about 43 years ago to rearrange the fpr setup, but I don't
know what it involved.  All I know is my layout never resembled the
pictures in the manuals even when I got it.

Try to see if any of the connections to it are overheated or melty
looking, or wiggly to the touch.  Then trace the crazy circuits and
check the back side inputs that are for the fpr, if yours is mounted in
the main box still.  Mine is in an add-on socket above the main board.
