Hmm, I had a similar condition in my old '89 200, but it wouldn't start
on cold mornings. It'd idle for about 2 seconds and then die, and not
restart until it warmed up. Turned out to be the coolant temp
sensor........I know there's several for these cars, this one was solo
and threaded into the head IIRC. I think I had to remove the ps pump to
get at it easily. There'd be pics on SJM's site.
Of course your symptoms differ from mine....

The only common thing during the two events was that it was cold.
After the first incident, I took apart all the grounds and cleaned
them. I
also cleaned as many connections that I could get to.
The cat and oxygen sensor have been replaced since the first incident.
Anyone have any ideas? Intermittant idle switch?
