Road Trip Tip #3: Directions on a Palm Pilot

In making the 850 mile trip between NH and NC,
the need for directions is critical (especially the
150 miles of back roads in NC). StreetAtlas,
Mapquest.com, and Mapblast.com give nice
directions, but driving at night makes it tough to
read them. Turning on the interior light causes a
bit of blindness when you turn it off, and using the
headlights of the car behind you just doesn't cut it.

I condense the directions down to just mileage
and road (e.g., 323 Exit 170, I-95 N) and put
them on a Palm Pilot. The real advantage of this
is the backlighting on the Palm Pilot. You can
read the glow of the directions without hurting
your night vision.

I also include extra info like rest stops and radio
stations for the areas I'm passing through. Makes
the trip a little easier.
