Most likely the rear differential actuator is not disengaging
properly. You'll need to get under the car and check and manually
disengauge - you may actually find a leak in one of the lines.
I had this happen on my 4kq "black beater" when I took it out for a
drive in the snow. It was very interesting driving with the rear diff
locked when the front was not. Was pretty squirrly on the straights
with deep snow and rear wanted to walk around to the front. Was pretty
good for when I wanted to do a donut though.

Subject: '87 5KQ Diff light help
I went thru the archives and not much on this.
'87 5KQ.
When the differential lock is in the OFF position the REAR light stays
ON.
What's a best guess as to what's wrong?
TIA
