4kq- 'nnormal' water temp gage reading?

   It's finally gotten warm here in Detroit; driving home from work
yesterday the coolant temp gauge on my '87 4kq went as high as I've ever
seen it, nudging the third mark from the top of the scale.  This gauge never
worked in my '86, so I don't know what to expect.  Is this a normal
operating temp, or a harbinger of automotive entertainment?  Fan cycles on
and off normally.
