A new oil filter thread...

Alan,

I ask this question to myself everytime I have to either order filters or when
I need to pick one on my bean to replace in one of my 3 VAG cars.

A calculated guess is that the working pressure of the internal valve in these
filters are different.

If my guess is correct it can affect engines that run lower oil pressure when
you're using a higher working pressure valve filter by reducing the flux.

Although, with the traditional grain of salt, this differential in pressure
can also be negligible. i.e., one can mix and match at will.

Since I don't have numbers or even know if my thoughts are correct I can't say
anything for sure.

The only thing I can say for sure is that I did mix and match more than once these
filters. They look the same, and after I have it in the car with new oil, I'm
not going to replace with the correct number one. I remember at least twice of
these occasions, no problems so far.

I think I didn't help much here.
