CIS-3 potentiometer question

Hello,

I read the Bosch engine management book and couldn't figure this one out.
What is the function of the fuel distributor potentiometer? Is its signal
only used during the warmup? My check engine light is blinking and I am
getting an error code pointing to the potentiometer. The car runs fine, and
I am trying to understand If i can just ignore the problem or it needs to
be fixed.
