Subframe R&R ( stubborn bushing)

All excited I took my clean and pretty subframe to Kimes Auto( local machine
shop), to let them press the
bushings in. We didn't have any trouble with the rear bushings, but we were
afraid for the front ones.
We were unable to get the fronts in, because when we got the pressure on, it
looked like we would be ripping the rubber off. I have looked in the
archives but haven't found anything specific that would be helpful.
Did I chicken out too soon, and should have put way more pressure on the
bushing? What is the trick?
