Multiple Vehicle Insurance

Just one interesting tidbit. Where I live, in Ohio, they have a wonderful little program where the state sends out proof of insurance cards to random people requesting car insurance information.

At any time, you may get a card, ON ANY CAR YOU HAVE A VALID LICENSE PLATE FOR, and you must provide proof of insurance on this car.

I never thought anything of it, as I have ins on all of my cars. At one point, I used to drop insurance on my Porsche during the winter, as I don't drive it then.

It was pointed out to me however, that if the state were to send me a card requesting insurance information, I could be fined and or lose my driver's license, due to the fact that I had cancelled the insurance on that car. The fact that I wasn't driving the car at the time didn't matter. There was a license plate on it, and therefore I was REQUIRED to have insurance on it at all times.

Your state may vary, but if yours has a similar program, I would check it out before canceling insurance on your car for a season, or swapping coverage between cars.

Good Luck!
